Joshua Hawkins
GAME DESIGNER
About me
Hi, I’m Joshua Hawkins a UK-based game design student specialising in narrative design, worldbuilding, and emotional player experiences. I’m passionate about how games tell stories, build connections with players, and communicate meaning through environments, dialogue, and systems.
My work focuses on character-driven narratives, worldbuilding, and analysis of how gameplay and story shape each other. I love exploring what makes players feel something, whether it’s tension, comfort, belonging, or curiosity.
I’m heavily inspired by PlayStation titles and Japanese storytelling, especially the emotional depth found in narrative-focused adventures and the intentional design philosophy of Japanese studios. These influences guide the tone, structure, and pacing of the worlds I create.
Right now, I’m developing several projects, including:
. Firewatch Narrative Analysis: exploring environmental storytelling and emotional design
. Letters Left in the Vending Machine: an in world artifact collection
. The Boy Who Spoke to Silence: a character bio and emotional arc
. Echo Realm: a third-person narrative adventure
Outside of development, I’m always learning and experimenting with new tools, writing, and studying the craft of storytelling in games. My goal is to create experiences that are thoughtfully designed, emotionally grounded, and meaningful to the players who encounter them.
